Build the Board That's Right for You

How to make your board a partner, not a problem

Course Summary

In this course you will learn the basics of board governance in the nonprofit sector, and how to develop a partnership that will help the organization and the community you serve. Start with why and how boards were created as the cornerstone of what we now know as the nonprofit sector. Then, taking that as a foundational element of why boards are actually important, start exploring what boards can do, should do, and have to do, and how you can build it organically and intentionally.

Answer questions like:
* What does "governance" actually mean for nonprofits?
* Is the board the "boss" of my organization?
* Who owns the nonprofit?
* Which rules and laws does my nonprofit have to follow?
* Do we have to create a board that is exactly like the model?
